I’ve noticed that a few pages still link here, and that it all looks rather neglected. For the very few of you wondering what happened, I didn’t give up, but I did change job. All my recent OpenNMS related posts, such that they are, are part of the OpenNMS Project Blog (BTW, those are caricatures of Matt, and David, I’m much more handsome, both in real life and in cartoon form).
I’m still an active member of the OpenNMS community, but as my current job is not really very “blog friendly”, there’s been no traffic here for a while. My thanks to Tarus and the OpenNMS Group for hosting this for me.
You can find the occasional tweet from me as blackpoplar.

There’s been a lot of discussion regarding the usage of the term “Open Source” this week. I feel a quick post on my views on the subject is in order (whilst I consider a hit-and-run friday night commit).

I picked up a copy of The Economist on the way to Frankfurt for the OpenNMS European User Conference a couple of weeks ago. I’ve done this since air travel first became part of my working life. I suspect most regular readers chose The Economist for it’s insight and global coverage. I chose it because it’s small, and I can read all the articles I can understand whilst the plane is still on the tarmac.

I started a new job this week. The induction day was run at an office a long way from home, so I decided to stay overnight with my friends Jane and Kevin. Jane and Kevin are both extremely experienced IT professionals and their insight, though rooted in their own particular markets is always thought-provoking.

I booked my flight to Frankfurt today, and I see from Tarus’s Blog that the agenda for the conference is beginning to come together.
